Pelvic Alignment & SOTAI
As you can see by the illustration, most muscles in the back of the human body insert into the neck, spine and pelvis. Therefore if the pelvis is not straight and out of alignment it has a knock on effect throughout the whole body. This can cause problems in the neck and head, shoulders, various areas of the back, legs and feet. There are methods such as chiropractic and osteopathy, which can realign these areas, but there is also a very ancient Japanese method known as SOTAI
SOTAI
SOTAI was developed by Keizo Hashimoto, M.D. (1897 - 1993) using the application and essence of Oriental medical science, modern medical knowledge and Seitai-Jutsu, which has been used in Japan for thousands of years.
In 1933, Dr.Hashimoto opened his clinic and began treatment but not all patients were cured, especially in such cases as stiff shoulders and lumbago. He knew that acupuncturist or therapist of manual medicine cured some of his patients but not all of them. He thought that strange and wondered why. So he began to acquire those skills and took instructions from the acupuncturist and healers. He studied human body structure and discovered what he called the law of one movement. This was a movement away from the restriction or reverse motion treatment. He discovered that moving in opposite direction of the restriction the problem area moved easily throughout the body and the strain of the condition returned to normal.
Dr.Hashimoto kept announcing the result of the individual treatment regularly to the medical circles, and called this form of treatment SOTAI.
Physical distortion (in SOTAI)
Human beings are mammals. Most of the mammals on the earth stand on four feet. Human beings who use only two only use the upright walking. No wonder we suffer from lumbago and piles.
In SOTAI, think about a human being as the same as mammals that walks on all four.
Think of the body in the same way as a house, and this will explain how physical distortion is addressed with SOTAI.
The body's construction is same as the house. The Arms & legs are the four Pillars. The backbone is like a ridgepole. When the balance of the pillar collapses, distortion occurs in the ridge pole (backbone).
A human body has an almost impossible movement without knowing it throughout its daily life (It is unnatural). When it breaks down the balance of the legs is mostly the cause. The body tries to keep a straight balance.

The various nerves concerned with the internal organs are connected with the spine. The distortion of the backbone causes the nerves to become dull. This brings about a change in the vessel quality causing illness. This is all due to the distortion of the backbone.
The treatment of SOTAI
The treatment of SOTAI never gives pressure to the body. It moves the body in the direction to which it moves easily and comfortably. For example, stand upright, and twist the body right and left. If you feel discomfort when you twist left, try to twist slowly and connect with your inner (body) and its feelings. If you want to accept those feelings try asking your body ”how does that feel? If it feels comfortable, twist left again, you may feel better than before. If you are concerned about a painful shoulder or your waist, then try the general treatment, as this tends to help those areas in particular. It is felt that these conditions are the results not the problem, as a shoulder and a waist don't exist independently.
Pelvic Alignment
This is a gentle and non-intrusive method to readjust and align the pelvic bone.
The patient carries out the adjustment technique under the supervision and guidance of the practitioner. A major component in using this technique is the use of the breath.
